The Career Path of Chamundeeswari Sanghvi: From Biotechnology student to IAM Principal Consultant
Chamu stumbled upon the Identity and Access Management field by accident. Read about her remarkable career story, from being a biotechnology and bioinformatics student, to becoming a Principal Consultant in the Identity and Access Management (IAM) field.
Chamu's education had nothing to do with Cybersecurity. In fact, she did a Bachelor’s in Biotechnology and Master's in Bioinformatics. However, Chamu describes that she has always been a bit of a tech savvy. So, she tried to give game development a go. With a game on the Play Store with over 18,000 downloads, she went on an interview for a developer position and became a Backend Developer at the Enterprise and Cyber-Security Department at Fujitsu Finland Oy. And this is where her career in the IT-security industry took its start 🚀
Today, Chamu is working as an IAM Principal Consultant in the Digital Trust team at Epical. Her current tasks are focused on creating architecture and implementing an IAM system called Saviynt for our customers. Chamu explains that the best feature of working at Epical is the ability to work autonomously. She also says that she gets to bring her ideas, steer development based on her experience, and has the full freedom to work at her will. This is something she really appreciate at Epical.
When I ask Chamu about what she enjoys the most working in the field of Digital Trust, and more specifically Identity and Access Management (IAM), she says that she has always been curious about the IT processes for managing 'User Lifecycle' in different organizations. As a Principal Consultant, she enjoy sharing her gained knowledge to customers. It is a huge satisfaction simply fixing and automating the user lifecycle process as it can reduce a huge amount of workload from an organization's IT team.
One thing that make Chamu stand out, is the fact that she has been living and working in various countries – Finland, the Netherlands and now, Sweden. She has been living in Finland for over 11 years. After that, she moved to the Netherlands which she describes as a very culturally rich environment. It has helped her in learning to adapt to different scenarios as she’s been thrown by new cultures. Now, living in Sweden, it feels very close to her homeland. Chamu says that since she returned to the Nordics during the summer 2023, she feels a lot calmer and happier to open her laptop to work every day without the hustle and bustle of major cities.
When asking Chamu about which country she has enjoyed living in the most so far, she says that is a tough one to answer. "Each country I moved to came with its own benefits and challenges. However, since all the countries are part of the EU, I have enjoyed the work-life balance, and I am grateful for that”, she explains.
Chamu heard about Epical for the first time from a good friend and old colleague of hers, Roni Ronkainen from Finland, who had joined Epical just few months before her. When she saw his LinkedIn update, she was curious to learn more about the company. Reading about how Epical’s main focus is to provide Trust to the customers, it immediately hit a string with her, and she happily approached Roni to learn more – and now we are here!
We were asking Chamu what she think sets Epical apart in the IT consulting industry, and how Epical will contribute to her career growth. She replies that she has seen many companies develop their consultants to have knowledge on all the tools in the industry to come forward as a strong company. Although she think that should be an underlying focus, she really value Epical's primary focus, to provide Trust, which can only be garnered by having a team of specialized consultants on specific products.
Hence, any company or customer that requires quality solutions while establishing trust, then she can willfully say that this unique customer centric focus can be found with Epical, and she really admire it. Chamu gets reminded of a quote by the legendary martial artist Bruce Lee;
“I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”
It is a quote that emphasizes the importance of focused practice and a high level of proficiency which can be found in Epical and hence it is the brand for Digital Trust.
